ELECTRONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL
When
talking about electronic music, we refer to an industry in progress. The
electronic music being listened to nowadays is being produced at levels of
equal or greater proportions than in genres like rock, pop, dance and many
others. Such unprecedented progress has generated a tremendous advancement in
the evolution of this genre.
The
introduction of electronic music onto the world stage has captured much
attention, to the point that concerts get fully booked and you have 10 to 20
thousand people attending each of these concerts. So the question remains, why?
At first
instance, we have the “disc jockeys,” also known as “deejays” or “DJ” for
short; and they are the leaders in this ever-growing industry. With the passing
of the years and the public demands, they have become comprehensive artists,
leaving behind their traditional image as audiophiles whose main interest was only
that of playing records. These new millennium artists now require a stage,
production, a budget, and investments that guarantee their startup, in an
industry where most of its stars aren’t popular but have become the engine of a
culture that has advanced since their introduction in the 70s.
It is thanks to the constant evolution and its large worldwide acceptance that this culture or musical phenomenon has become unstoppable in their production of festivals, concerts, and important events like Fantasía Musical, Winter Ultra Music Conference and Tomorrowland
However,
it should be noted that there has been a phenomenon taking over in Argentina
and Uruguay in the last 10 years. And that, is a festival whose inception is
traced to Cali, Colombia known as the Black
and White Festival; a brainchild of entrepreneur David Sarria.
In the middle of August 2002, on Lake Calima, the most spectacular place in the state of Valle del Cauca, better known as the Colombian Swiss Alps, the biggest dance party in South America was born. Ever since, over 15,000 Colombians dress in a particular color (black or white) and then gather to enjoy this majestic event. Both, DJs and invited artists dance together with those in attendance, and in their euphoria, they enjoy the music, an elaborate arrangement of lights, fireworks, and performing acrobats on both land and air who can also be viewed on giant screens. This festival is divided into two versions: Black and White. In the white one, trance and house rhythms are predominant, while in the black version, techno prevails.
In 2008, Latin entrepreneur and successful entertainment celebrity in the United States, Alvaro Altamirano, joined the party. This renowned producer brings to the table the quality of his experience, which gives this event major recognition. Since then, and under his production, this party extended to the world’s most important city in electronic music, New York. Because of the success and acceptance from its followers, the Magic City catches the spellbinding fascination of the Black and White Festival, thus in August 2012, Miami becomes host to the first festival being held in the south of the United States.
Mr.
Alvaro Altamirano is currently working out details with artists and logistics
teams so that on the 6th and 7th of October 2012, the
World’s Capital continues the magic at Governors
Island Beach Club.
