ELECTRONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL

On July 27, 2012, Europe celebrates one of the most important electronic music festivals of the year; Tomorrowland. This great event is fun turned into fantasy being that it takes place around an amusement park, complemented by the dancing of more than 200,000 souls united by a same genus; electronic music

In 2005, in Amberes, Belgium, Tomorrowland was created, one of the theme parks properties of Disney. Thus, labeled an Electronic Carnival by Europeans, a mix of vibrant entertainment among the thousands of followers, magical dynamic of the great DJs on stage and an elevated musical energy filled with an assortment of beats. Tomorrowland has been described as “a hallucinating fantasy of electronic music created in the height of a European summer.”

This festival is carried out in  more than 14 stages, each one with a style and personality of its own; artists, dancers, and a smiling sun particularly serving as an accomplice to lovers of endless love, perfect for new couples in love y all of those looking for new friends.

Tomorrowland is administered by the Dutch entertainment company ID & T, the largest dancing company in the Netherlands. This event of international breadth has become one of the most important in the world of electronic music. It is said to be in the realm of the most renowned festivals all over the world like Black and White (New York/Miami, USA – Cali, Colombia), Ultra  Music Festival, Creamfields and the MPM Festival, among others. The event has won many awards including Best European Festival and Best Belgium Summer Festival. Also, this year it was nominated as the Best World Festival in IDMAs (International Dance Music Awards). 

There is no doubt that what makes the festival this important is the participation of the artists, the same ones who the followers of electronic music see all in one stage. This year, in an official communiqué from the organizers, they announced the participation of more than 100 artists headed by The Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, Above & Beyond, Carl Cox, Fedde le Grand, Ferry Corsten, Sander Van Doorn, Cosmic Gate, Avicii, Faithless, Tiësto, Laidback Luke, David Guetta, Paul Van Dyk, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice and Roger Sanchez among others. The followers of this festival or those people, who wish to participate in this important event next year, need get their tickets as soon as this year’s Tomorrowland culminates in July, being that tickets sell out within a month of being put on sale to the public. Este magno evento es la diversión hecha fantasía, ya que se realiza en torno a un parque de diversiones que se complementa a través del baile de más de 200 mil almas unidas por un mismo género; la música electrónica

En el 2005, en Amberes, Bélgica, se creó Tomorrowland, uno de los parques temáticos propiedad de Disney alrededor del mundo. De allí que este festival sea denominado por los europeos como un “Carnaval electrónico”, una mezcla de diversión vibrante entre sus miles de seguidores, dinamismo mágico de grandes DJ en escena y la elevada energía musical cargada de variedad en los ritmos. Este festival se lleva a cabo en más de 14 etapas, cada una con su propia personalidad y estilo; artistas, bailarines y un sol sonriente con la particularidad de aliarse con los amantes del amor infinito, es perfecto para las parejas recién enamoradas y para aquellas personas en busca de nuevos amigos.

Tomorrowland es administrado por la compañía holandesa de entretenimiento ID & T, la empresa de baile más grande de los Países Bajos. Este evento de ámbito internacional, se ha convertido en uno de los más importantes en el mundo de la música electrónica. Se dice que está a la altura de los más sonados festivales del mundo, tales como; Black and White (New York/Miami, EU – Cali, Colombia), Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields y The Bpm festival, entre otros. Este evento ha ganado muchos premios, incluyendo "Mejor Festival Europeo" y "Mejor Festival de Verano de Bélgica", además, este año fue nominado como "Mejor Festival Mundial" en IDMAs (International Dance Music Awards).

YOU CAN'T CONTROL EVERYTHING

“Letting go doesn’t mean giving up, but rather accepting that there are things that cannot be controlled”

Today, while driving along on my merry way to an important appointment, traffic came to a sudden halt. I looked to the horizon and in a matter of seconds I came to the realization that I wasn’t going to make it. Within an instant, I felt a familiar heart pounding and burning sensation…simply put: Anxiety! I was stuck. I couldn’t even get to an exit because traffic was at a standstill. And after about 30 minutes of not moving, I realized that I had no control over this situation. I just had to “let it go” and allow for things to occur as they were meant to. Before this epiphany, I was filled with doubt and worry. Would this last all day? Worries filled my head.

Unbeknownst to many, the inability to tolerate uncertainty plays a huge role in anxiety and worry. Many of us think we need to know with 100% certainty what the future holds as a way to prevent surprises and control the outcome. However, there is one problem: It doesn’t work! Imagining all the ways that something can go wrong doesn’t make our lives any more predictable. Maybe worrying makes us feel safer, but that’s just an illusion. The only thing it WILL do is keep us from enjoying the present.

Letting go or “going with the flow”, is not something we are typically taught. Instead, we are constantly told to “keep it together” and “hold on for dear life”. When we hold on too tight for fear of losing control, we only feel frustrated and tense. There are many things that we have control over; the obvious things like whom we choose to be friends with, what kind of car we drive, who we marry, etc. Conversely, there are many circumstances that we can’t control. There, the only control we do have is how we react or respond in those particular instances.

There’s a rule that you should follow: Can you control it? Can you change it? If you can’t answer yes, then learn to let go. Life events come into our lives to teach us something, sometimes we are just meant to be where we are meant to be. It’s like fighting a riptide. We have always been taught to swim with the tide, not against it. If you fight it, you will most likely end up exhausted, angry, and physically ill. This applies to life as well. The key is to enjoy the ride. It’s also human nature to hold on tight to things we fear losing…even negative relationships and unfulfilling jobs, because we’re afraid nothing better will come along. This “grip” definitely needs to be loosened. Look around that corner, you may find something good or even great that’s been hiding there all along!

All in all, letting go does not mean becoming passive or accepting mediocrity. It just means that you acknowledge that twists and turns are inevitable and that many things are beyond our control. It’s about trusting whatever happens in your life because every event is an amazing opportunity to learn, grow, and to ultimately choose happiness. Free yourself from trying to control that which is beyond your control. Let it go and let your life happen!

NO PUEDES CONTROLARLO TODO

Dejar que las cosas pasen no significa que te rindes, al contrario, significa que aceptas que hay cosas que no se pueden controlar.

Me encontraba manejando alegremente en camino a una cita importante, cuando de repente, el flujo del tráfico se detuvo. Miré hacia el horizonte y en cuestión de segundos, me di cuenta que no llegaría a mi cita. En un solo instante sentí que el corazón se me salía del pecho; ardía intensamente… simplemente dicho: Era ansiedad! Ni siquiera podía salir de la autopista porque el tráfico estaba paralizado. Y después de más o menos 30 minutos de no movernos, caí en cuenta que no tenía control sobre esa situación. Solo debía “dejarme llevar” y permitir que las cosas se dieran de la manera que fueron destinadas a serlo. Antes de ésta epifanía, estaba llena de duda y preocupación. ¿Duraría esto todo el día? Preocupaciones llenaron mi cabeza.

Muchos son ajenos al hecho de que la inhabilidad de tolerar la incertidumbre juega un papel enorme en la ansiedad y la preocupación. De la misma manera, muchos pensamos que se necesita saber con 100% de certeza lo que nos depara el futuro como una manera de prevenir sorpresas y controlar el desenlace. Pero hay un problema: eso no trabaja! Imaginarse todas las formas en la cual algo puede salir mal, no hace nuestra vida más predecible. Tal vez el preocuparnos nos hace sentir más a salvo o en control, pero eso es solo una ilusión. Lo único que sí hará, es impedir que gocemos de nuestro presente.

Dejar que las cosas pasen o “ir con la corriente” no es lo que típicamente se nos enseña. En vez, se nos inculca constantemente a “mantener la calma” y “aferrarse para salvar la vida.” Cuando nos aferramos demasiado por temor a perder el control, solo nos sentimos frustrados y tensos. Hay muchas cosas de las que sí tenemos control; cosas obvias como las personas que escogemos como amigos, la clase de carro que manejamos o con quién nos casamos. Por otra parte, hay muchas circunstancias que simplemente no podemos controlar. En esos casos, el único control que sí tenemos es cómo reaccionamos o respondemos ante dadas situaciones.

Hay una regla a seguir: ¿Lo puedes controlar? ¿Lo puedes cambiar? Si no puedes responder sí, entonces déjalo ir, deja que las cosas sean. Los acontecimientos de la vida llegan para enseñarnos algo; a veces estamos supuestos a estar donde estamos por algún motivo. Es como pelear en contra de aguas revueltas. Siempre se nos ha enseñado a nadar con la corriente, no en contra. Si luchas en contra, es más probable que termines exhausto, enojado y físicamente enfermo. De la misma manera, esto se aplica a la vida. La clave está en disfrutar del paseo. También es parte de la naturaleza humana el aferrarse a las cosas que tememos perder, incluso relaciones negativas y trabajos en los que no estamos contentos, porque tenemos miedo de que nada mejor vendrá. Esta “empuñadura” definitivamente se necesita aflojar. Mira alrededor de esa esquina, puedes encontrar algo bueno o magnifico que ha estado ahí escondido todo este tiempo!

Finalmente, dejar que las cosas pasen no quiere decir volverse pasivo o aceptar mediocridad. Simplemente significa que reconoces que en la vida hay inevitables vueltas y desvíos, y que muchas cosas están fuera de tu control. Déjalo pasar y deja que tu vida suceda!

RECIPES AND SUCCESS

Chilango is a reference made to those native of Mexico. Hence the name Leo Cervantes chose for his restaurant. With more than 260 tequila varieties, this cozy restaurant emanates a warm welcome to all Mexican food lovers.

While we indulged in some delicious fish tacos marinated with beer, Leo told me that his passion for the culinary arts comes from his mother; his great teacher. He came to the United States 23 years ago and saw the influence that Latinos have on the cuisine of this country; and it is since then that he combined his work with his passion for cooking.

10 years ago, there were only 20 Latinos in the city of Highlands, located in the southern coast of New Jersey, and this made the introduction of true Mexican cuisine to this city all the more difficult. “People weren’t used to the hot spice, the nopals and the many typical Mexican condiments; so it took me a year to get Chilangos up and running. The challenge was getting my new clients to adapt to the new menu.” Nowadays, he has delighted celebrities like Sting, Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen with his succulent creations and has also worked with their personal chefs. People from all over the country and the world have gone to taste his seasoning. “There are 22 prestigious restaurants in the area, but I can proudly say that Chilangos is one of the most recognized,” says this successful entrepreneur.

Leo Cervantes is a man with an ample business vision. He’s currently undertaking an ambitious project which aims to break the Guinness World Record with an 80 meter enchilada; the biggest one in the world. In addition, he partnered with the private boat company SEAStreak to launch a Tiki bar that will give life to a part of Highlands Beach which has capacity for about 2500 people. The main menu will be that of his restaurant.

Leo Cervantes has received accolades and articles from newspapers as important as The New York Times; he also won the award America’s Most Prestigious Guide to Dinning ZAGAT SURVEY for five years in a row and first prize in the 21^st Annual Battle of the Chefs Six Flags Great Adventure in 2011. He’s participated in cooking programs on TV Azteca and the famous Food Network, experiences recounted in his first book MEXI-CAN Life Recipes and Success, in which he shares about his life and career.

Professional chef, producer of the Jean and Marco duo, the pioneers of Bachatamex, head of household and entrepreneur are successful distinctions that put behind his humble beginnings where extreme poverty never hindered his dreams, and on the contrary taught him that adversity turns to blessings if you know how to channel it through the passion that you give to what you do.

"Looking at my clients enjoy my dishes and to transform eating into a happy moment, creativity and pleasure, has no price. Those simple moments are my main satisfaction. The main ingredients in my kitchen are love and passion. Just that makes the difference."

When I asked him what success to him was, he told me: "Enjoying my kids, talking advantage of every minute life has to offer and mingling with the people whom I indulge with my creations, that's what I'm passionate about in life."

La palabra “Chilango” hace referencia a los oriundos de México, de ahí el nombre que Leo Cervantes le dio a su restaurante. Con más de 260 variedades de tequilas, este acogedor restaurante les da una cálida bienvenida a los amantes de la comida mexicana.

Mientras degustamos unos deliciosos tacos de pescado, Leo me contó que su pasión por el arte culinario viene de su madre; su gran maestra. Leo llegó a USA hace 23 años y se dio cuenta de la influencia de los latinos en la gastronomía de este país, desde entonces, combinó su trabajo, con su pasión por la cocina.

Hace 10 años, en la ciudad de Highlands, NJ, vivían alrededor de 20 latinos, fue por eso que introducir la verdadera comida mexicana en esa ciudad le fue difícil. “La gente no estaba acostumbrada al picante, los nopales y las diferentes especies típicas mexicanas, así que me tomó un año levantar Chilangos. Mi reto fue adaptar a mis clientes al nuevo menú” Hoy en día, ha deleitado con sus suculentas creaciones a celebridades de la talla de Sting, Bon Jovi y Bruce Springsteen, además, ha trabajado con sus cocineros personales. Actualmente, Bruce y su familia son clientes asiduos de Chilangos. Además, personas de otros estados y países lo visitan para probar su sazón. “En el área existen 22 restaurantes de prestigio, sin embargo, puedo decir orgullosamente que Chilangos es uno de los más reconocidos”, dice este exitoso empresario.

Leo Cervantes es un hombre de visión amplia en los negocios. Actualmente trabaja un ambicioso proyecto que propone romper el Record Guinness con la enchilada más grande del mundo (80 metros de largo) y que será transmitida por el reconocido Food Network.  Además, se unió a la empresa privada de botes SEASTREAk, para inaugurar un Tiki Bar que

le dará vida a una parte de la playa de Highlands, la cual tiene capacidad para 2.500 personas. El menú tendrá nuevas creaciones de este Chef.

Chef profesional, productor del dúo JannyMarco, los pioneros de la “Bachatamex”, cabeza de hogar y empresario, exitosas distinciones que dejan atrás su origen humilde en donde la extrema pobreza no truncó sus sueños, por el contrario, le enseñó que las adversidades se convierten en bendiciones si se saben canalizar por medio de la pasión que se le pone a lo que se hace.

“Ver a mis clientes deleitarse con mis platillos y transformar el comer en un momento de alegría, creatividad y placer, no tiene precio. Esos simples momentos son mí mayor satisfacción. Mis ingredientes principales en la cocina son el amor y la pasión. Tan solo eso, hace la diferencia”.

Cuando le pregunté cuál era el éxito para él, me dijo: “Disfrutar a mis hijos, aprovechar cada minuto de vida y socializar con la gente a quien deleito con mis creaciones, eso es lo que más me apasiona en la vida”

After a break in his ascending career, the brilliant Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes returns with a surprising twist in his musical style.

Returning to the essence of music itself, Juanes joins the distinguished Juan Luis Guerra to present a formidable work that brings a variety of musical offerings called MTV Unplugged. These two musical giants harness the energy and spirituality channeled during a sabbatical, to offer a true musical basin which includes popular songs of the Colombian singer. In the same manner, they surprise us with new songs fusing sounds of cellos, violins and trumpets; a mixture that achieves an exquisite modern musical concept that uses the acoustic guitar as base.

It was MTV who proposed Juanes to return to the vernacular music next to Juan Luis, and the offer came like a fountain of fresh water at a time when he was feeling a little saturated and tired. Working at his side and recreating the songs, refreshing the music, is the best that the musical world has given Juanes. He says it was like reconnecting with this essence. This doesn’t mean that he’s permanently changing the electric guitar for the acoustic, it’s only temporary.

The MTV Unplugged format takes him to perform in theaters all over Latin America and the United States instead of the typical stadiums he’s accustomed to filling up. His single Me enamora in acoustic version is already being played in the radio. But being on the top charts is not as important to me as people liking the music, says Juanes.

The songs chosen in this new album have beautiful energy, are enlightening, with harmonies that allow for creating different versions. “We looked for lyric themes that were different among themselves, but that at the same time were headed in the same direction,” says Juanes laughing. “At the end it was an intensity of energy with Juan Luis. For me, it was a difficult process as a composer, I wanted all the songs to be included, but Juan Luis said no, that an album with more than fourteen tracks is too complicated. It was a very positive productioN."

A positive thinking that he wants to instill in the music students. This is why in his last visit to New York, he visited the Celia Cruz School in the Bronx to talk to youngsters about what it is really like to be a musician, to encourage them to not miss classes, practice a lot whatever instrument they play and to be dedicated.

But besides playing the guitar, concerts and the studio, Juanes rides bicycle and loves to spend his free time with his family.

When I told him, the song La camisa negra says: “so poor and craving so much”. You’re not poor anymore. Are you still craving? he delineated a flirty laugh and answered “Ufff!!! Yes, you can’t imagine! I want a lot of things everyday all the TIME."

During the interview Juanes was affable and down to earth. He continues conquering his public with his positive energy, the same energy that has led him to success and demonstrates through his modesty and quality as a human being. DE VUELTA A LOS ESCENARIOS

Luego de una pausa en su ascendente carrera artística, el canta-autor Colombiano Juanes, retorna con un sorprendente giro en su estilo musical.

Volviendo a la esencia misma de la música, Juanes se une al maestro Juan Luis Guerra para presentar un formidable trabajo que trae una diversidad de propuestas musicales llamado MTV Unplugged. Estos dos gigantes de la música aprovechan la energía y la espiritualidad canalizada durante un periodo sabático, para ofrecernos una verdadera hoya musical que incluye reconocidos temas del cantante Colombiano. Así mismo, nos sorprenden con canciones inéditas, fusionando sonidos de violonchelos, violines y trompetas; mezcla que logra un exquisito concepto musical moderno que tiene la guitarra acústica como base.

Fue MTV quien le propuso a Juanes que volviera a la música vernácula junto a Juan Luis, y la oferta llegó como agua fresca ya que él estaba un poco saturado y cansado. “Haber creado y refrescado la música y componer canciones inéditas junto al maestro, es lo mejor que el mundo musical le ha dado a Juanes. Fue volverse a reconectar a su esencia”; según sus propias palabras. Esto no quiere decir que cambie definitivamente su guitarra eléctrica, por la acústica.

El formato del MTV Unplugged lo lleva a presentarse en teatros en toda Latino América y los Estados Unidos, en vez de los estadios que acostumbra llenar. Su sencillo Me Enamora en versión acústica, ya está sonando en la radio. Pero más que estar en primer lugar, lo que a Juanes le importa es que a la gente le guste.

Las canciones que se eligieron para este nuevo disco, son de energía bonita, de luz, positivas, de armonía que se presta para hacer diferentes versiones. “Buscamos que la temática de las letras fuesen diferentes entre sí, pero que al mismo tiempo apuntaran hacia la misma dirección”, dice Juanes entre risas. “Al final, fue una intensión de energía con Juan Luis.

Para mí fue un proceso difícil como compositor; quería que estuvieran todas las canciones pero Juan Luis dijo que no, que un disco con más de catorce canciones es muy complicado. Fue un trabajo muy positivo” Positivismo que él quiere infundir en los estudiantes de música. Es por eso que en su última venida a Nueva York, visitó la escuela de Celia Cruz, en el Bronx, para hablarles a los jóvenes sobre la forma cómo funciona la carrera de un músico y para incitarlos a no faltar a sus clases, a que practiquen muchísimo en el instrumento que toquen y a que tengan mucha dedicación. Pero además de la guitarra, los conciertos o el estudio, Juanes monta bicicleta y ama compartir su tiempo libre con su familia.

Cuando le dije: la camisa negra dice: “tan pobre y tan antojado”. Ya usted no es pobre, ¿Sigue siendo antojado?, me dijo esbozando una risa coquetona: “Uff f!!! Si, no te imaginas! Quiero muchas cosas todos los días y a toda hora” Durante la entrevista, Juanes se mostró simpático y asequible. Sigue conquistando a su público con su energía positiva, la misma que le permite estar en donde está y aun así, mostrar su sencillez y calidad de ser humano. Juanes presenta un trabajo exitoso impregnado de mucho amor.

Summer, a time of the year defined by the intense heat and a time in which we constantly expose ourselves to changes in scenery; due in part to our predisposition to uncovering ourselves to the wind and the sun, while taking advantage of the good weather. In order to be perfect this season, I’ll reveal to you some make-up tricks.

Capture the look without competing with the lips

One of the fashion trends this season is to combine an intense make-up full of vibrant and happy colors in the eyes with a fresher and more discreet one in the lips. The shades in fad are: water, sky-blue, emerald, green, hot pink, yellow, orange shades and toasted colors. Definitely, fresh appeals, nautical and daring.

What we want to do is light up the eyes and subtly blends the lips to capture the attention. Any intense tone is part of the season as in the case of the orange tones. Don’t forget to use mascara, it is essential.

The eyeliner also constitutes an important feminine element in obtaining an impeccable look. The main trick to give depth to the look is to apply color to the inner contour of the eye with the pencil. If you want the eyes to look bigger, you should apply the color to the outer contour and extend the stroke past the corner of the eye.

Finally, the ideal complement to finish defining the eyes is the liquid eyeliner, which intensifies the outline of the eye and gives your look more expression. Applying it takes a little practice: close the eye and follow its outline over the upper eyelid with dots, then, unite them.

MAQUILLAJE PRIMAVERA-VERANO

El verano, una época del año que se caracteriza por el intenso calor y en la que constantemente nos sometemos a cambios de escenarios debido a que estamos más predispuestas a exponernos al viento y al sol, aprovechando el buen tiempo. Para estar perfecta en esta temporada, te desvelo algunos trucos de maquillaje.

Capturar la mirada sin competir con los labios.

Una de las tendencias de moda para esta temporada es combinar un maquillaje intenso y lleno de colores vivos y alegres en los ojos, con uno más fresco y discreto en los labios. Los tonos de moda son: agua, azul celeste, esmeralda, verde, rosa intenso, amarillo, los tonos naranjas y rojos y colores tostados. En definitiva, propuestas frescas, acuáticas y atrevidas.

Con la sombra clara cubres la superficie del párpado, mientras que el tono oscuro lo aplicas sólo en la parte móvil del párpado, difuminándolo hacia el lado exterior, sin recargar la parte cercana a la nariz.

El lápiz de ojos también constituye un elemento importante para conseguir una mirada impecable. Un truco fundamental para dar profundidad a la mirada es aplicar color en el contorno interior del ojo con el lápiz. Si quieres que los ojos parezcan más grandes, debes aplicar el color en el borde exterior y alargar el trazo más allá de la comisura del ojo".

Finalmente, el complemento ideal para terminar de definir los ojos es el delineador líquido, el cual sirve para intensificar la línea del ojo y dar una mayor expresividad a la mirada. Su aplicación requiere un poco de práctica: cierra el ojo y sigue el curso del mismo sobre el párpado superior mediante puntos, luego, únelos entre sí.

Lo más importantes es que NO LE TENGAS MIEDO AL COLOR. Ésta es la mejor época para disfrutar los colores y hay que aprovecharla.
