MEDIEVAL TIMES & DINNER TOURNAMENT

Transport yourself to 11th century Spain and bear witness to authentic knights as they parade in their shield and armors engaging in hand to hand combat, sword fighting and combats with weapons of the era; all these challenges putting to test their valor, their courage and ability. Medieval Times & Dinner Tournament is a very popular chain of coliseums that offers a marvelous show, while you eat, inspired during a very fascinating era.

This spectacle is brought to life by a talented cast of 75 actors and 20 horses. The placing and decor of the castles, including the changing room backstage, imitate those of the times, thus invoking the spirit of the Medieval Times.

In the armory, guests can admire an artifacts exhibit, where a spectacular variety of medieval armors and shields from many royal and prestigious families are put on display; and The Museum of Torture showcases replicas of the instruments of torture used at the time.

Royal trumpeters announce the call to the feast and invite attendees to take their seats. Once inside, guests are welcomed by the king and princess, who ask everyone to take part in a banquet and a royal style celebration. The coliseum is designed in a way that divides the seats in six different color sections identified by flags, each representing the six regions of Medieval Spain. Each region is also represented by their nobles and valiant knights, while the audience cheers and shows their support for the knight of their respective color zone.

The "servants of the castle" tend to all the guests' needs indulging in a special banquet. During the times, cutlery was not used, so the roasts are eaten with your bare hands and the soups and potage are served in bowls and artisan dishes of the times. The delicious dinner consists of garlic bread, tomato soup, seafood soup, roasted chicken, pork chops, herbs-seasoned potatoes, desserts, coffee and two rounds of select beverages. The facility is equipped with a full service bar to entertain adults, and once dinner is served the stage fills up quickly, beginning with a talented display of horsemanship and sword fighting.

The brave knights face each other on horseback and compete in games of skill, piercing rings, flags and javelin throwing. The triumphant knight wins the hand of Princess Catalina; and in a real celebration from the era, the Royal Falcon takes flight and rises from the crowd. The true stars of Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament are the beautiful horses that form part of the cast. These beautiful and talented Spanish purebred animals have been highly bred and trained from a very young age to function in their important role of dancing among sparkling swords flying in the air.

I was really impressed with the amount of choreography that the show entails, the horses, jockeys and "squires," all have to rearrange accessories and sets. There is a lot of cooperation and organization at the time of the battle and the whole experience is an extraordinary one.

At the end, guests celebrate the victory of their knight and they have the opportunity to get autographs while sharing with cast members. From the launch of the first castle in Kissimmee, Florida in 1983, the company has added nine more castles and has entertained more than 40 million visitors. The castles are open to the public free of charge from Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

From a historical perspective, the Medieval Times were among the most influential in mankind, lasting about a millennium. During this time we saw the fall of the great Roman Empire in the 5th century, the Norman Conquest of England and the emergence of the greatest kings of England; a period that became known as the Middle Ages or the time of the Renaissance.

Other notable events associated with this period were the pandemic of the Bubonic Plague, the rise of Christianity and the legend of King Arthur. A lot happened in the medieval times during the first one hundred years, it brought about change and evolution, the blueprint of what the world is today.

Many famous and prominent people came out of the medieval times, people like King Arthur, Joan of Arc; also known as The Maid of Orleans and Leonardo da Vinci, better known as The Man of the Renaissance.

Medieval Times features an extensive cast of actors, wrestlers and Latin managers. Colombian, Ricardo Salazar, manages the coliseum in Lyndhurst, New Jersey and Venezuelan, Dana Gonzalez, is the Sales Manager at the Kissimmee facility in Orlando, Florida.

Other states that have this magnificent spectacle are: Buena Park, California, Dallas, Texas, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Schaumburg, Illinois, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Hanover, Maryland, and Toronto, in Ontario, Canada.

Go back in time and relive the splendor and romance of the 11th century.

Transpórtate a España, siglo 11.

MEDELLIN

AND A FLOWER EMERGED...

From the Aburrá Valley, land of strong vigorous men, emerged a flower we now know as Medellin; the second largest architectural city of Colombia and one of the most progressive and beautiful cities in South America. Wrapped around stunning mountains, it is the capital of the State of Antioquia, a lovely city, land of famous singer-songwriter JUANES and divided by a broad river, with a population of almost 3.3 million inhabitants.

Abundant in beautiful, elegant women, this modern and sophisticated city has a very pleasant climate averaging 72°F all year around, hence earning the title of “The City of Eternal Spring,” the reason why many come over, and stay.

Medellin is a city that drives energy through its entrepreneurial, passionate and joyful people. The “paisas” as they are know in their native land, are recognized for their genuine warmth, kindness, courtesy, their singular sense of humor and for the passion with which they live their lives; characteristics that have played a major role in the positive transformation of the cultural, urban, social and educational aspects in the last 10 years.

According to Frommers, one the most sold and reliable tourist guides in the U.S., Medallo, endearing term used by paisas to refer to their city, or Medellin, is considered “An Emerging Travel Destination.” Especially after each year the number of American and European tourists visiting this charming city, grows.

This enchanting city is of high importance to the region and features 5 Clusters, or development strategies enabling businesses of one sector to take part in business networks which allow them to identify commercial opportunities.  These clusters are made up of electric energy, clothing manufacturing, fashion and design, construction, tourism and health services. It is in this last cluster that the city stands out as highly innovative and has consolidated itself as the main destination of Colombia’s Health Tourism, because of its hospital services, dental, educational and health research services.

“The City of Flowers” is another title procured as a result of its well-known Flower Fair (Feria de las Flores) and it’s Chair Man Parade (Desfile de Silleteros), which has reached its 55th edition and is now recognized as a “National Cultural Heritage.” The parade is adorned by a carnival-like procession of people in costumes and bands. The faces and smiles of the flower artists bring to light the millions of displayed flowers in the silletas (a chair-like contraption for carrying flowers on a person's back), an arduous job carried out through generations from the farmers of the township of Santa Elena. This event takes place every August to which is attributed the massive visits from local residents and tourists from all over the world. During this celebration you can enjoy concerts, cultural events, cavalcades known as cabalgatas, and one of the most traditional events in the program of the fair. It is estimated that more than half a million people each year view this event and it has also been recognized by the Guinness World Record on two occasions, and artistic contests like the famous Tango Festival, and Colombiamoda, which has awarded Medellin the title of the Fashion Capital.

During the December festivities, this city of troubadours gets illuminated by 16 million lights that hang from trees and shine amongst giant figures along the Medellin River. It is believed to be one of the Top Ten Best Lit in the planet, according to National Geographic.

Among the main points of interest for tourists are: Ciudad Botero (Botero’s City) in the Antioquia Museum, the Pueblito Paisa (Paisa’s Village), the Botanical Garden, Nutibara Hill, the Museum of Modern Art, the interactive museum EPM, in the Barefoot Park, the administrative center “La alpujarra”, Explora Park, the Plaza Mayor, the largest convention center in Colombia and the most modern in Latin America. The Metro or metropolitan train, is the only one of its kind in the country and is considered one of the most modern, efficient and clean of the planet.

In Medellin the ambiance is delicious day or night. The nightlife leaves much to talk about and wherever you go, the atmosphere is contagious and fun. So, when you get to Medellin…..its party time!

LLERAS PARK
“The Pink Zone” (La zona Rosa) of Medellin and number one in nightlife is located in the Poblado, the place to “feast the eyes” and to be seen in. It’s the “South Beach” of Medallo; full of bars, discos, outdoor restaurants, entertainment, casinos, shopping malls and of course fun, friendly people. The majority of the clubs play crossover, in other words, music of all genres. The security in the area will make you feel at ease, enough to enjoy a passion fruit or lulo mojito or a couple of “guaros”, shots of Aguardiente, Colombia’s national drink.

As far as lodging, this metropolis offers chains like Intercontinental and Dan, among others, all with exceptional service. A new addition to the area is THE CHARLEE, an elegant, cozy and contemporary hotel. This gem of a hotel has 42 rooms with 4 different styles, all with furnished balconies offering amenities as a luxury hotel would. It has an Italian gourmet restaurant called Lucia. And if you book the Spice room you can enjoy exquisite Japanese delicacies while you admire the wonderful view of the city from your balcony. From March to August this fabulous hotel will have an exhibit called Piso 11 (11th Floor), displaying the creative talent of 11 artists, 10 painters and one y sculptor. Conde Nast Magazine considers it one of the best new hotels in the world. And if this prestigious tourism entity says so, I recommend it with my eyes closed.

South America is strongly emerging in all areas. We must be proud to be Latin and to support our land. Enjoy the mountains, the climate, the food, the villages, the ranches, the cavalcades, the parties, and the people. Feel the love and passion. And if you are not from there it doesn’t matter! They will take you in with the same joy and enthusiasm.

Dare to visit this jewel of a city and you will see that the only risk you run will be that of wanting to stay!

BRIDAL MAKEUP

The ideal bridal makeup is one that accentuates the bride’s beauty and conceals any flaws naturally. Not too much or too little, but just the right combination of makeup and natural beauty; both fusing to help the bride look and feel as the center of attention. Radiant and glowing, those are the adjectives that best describe the face of a splendid bride on her wedding day. The basic rule of bridal makeup lies in perfectly applying the law of “less is more”.

A strategy for prolonging the freshness of the makeup on such an expected occasion consists of applying an ampoule flash before beginning to apply the makeup. The eyeliner and mascara need to be smudge-proof or waterproof in order to avoid makeup meltdowns and to give the eyes a pretty and expressive mien. One cannot forget that brides often cry and that can smear the makeup on their faces.

The special bridal makeup has to be lustrous and comfortable. The eye makeup for the bride should be soft. The foundation should be chosen thinking of the wedding duration and in the pictures. It should even last under the lights of the photographers, without it being too overwhelming. There is nothing worse than an insecure bride or a bride worried about the dress, the hair or the makeup.

The Real Test
In such a special occasion it is best not to improvise. In the same way we try out different wardrobes and hairdos, makeup should also be tested in advance. By doing so, one can be ready and confident to make the right decisions relating to our image at such an anticipated date.

The scheme of colors for bridal makeup should be simple. The makeup applied on the eyes, cheeks, and lips should fall under the same family of colors; warm or cool. If the bride wears white and has dark hair, she should wear colors in the pink family and should keep it simple by wearing a pink or mauve shadow. The blush and lips should be highlighted by a rose color and the eyeliner with a maroon o almond color. However, if the bride is inclined towards black, the line around the eyes should be delicately applied. If the dress is accompanied by a bouquet of peach colored flowers, a copper or bronze eye shadow is recommended, along with a combination between pink and peach for the cheeks and a peach toned lipstick.

Other Trends
Another trend in formal weddings is makeup depictive of a strong bride, one that identifies the sensual woman. Makeup with matte foundation, black eyeliner faintly applied, pink blush and long lasting red matte lipstick give you a dramatic look for a night wedding; perfect for such a formal event.

The bride should look and feel incredibly well; it is what she deserves. On her wedding day, it is the perfect occasion for a professional makeup artist to come in with his/her magic wand and give her a touch of sparkle and elegance.

MAQUILLAJE DE NOVIA

Radiante y luminoso.
