LOVE IN THE GOLDEN YEARS

Most people associate love with zest, the strength of youth, the passion and the eroticism of falling in love as an adolescent or young adult, because youngsters have the sensuality close to the surface and an acute eroticism that makes them tremble with desire. Does this mean that for the older adult it is impossible to find that soul mate with whom to be happy? Not at all!

The world tends to think, mistakenly, that with the passing of the years, the right to love and to enjoy sex disappears. Similarly, people who’ve surpassed the age of 60 feel that time has taken with it their chance to be happy along with that of finding their soul mate. The reality is that there is no age, space or time that can deny a human being the possibility of giving themselves fully to another while in love. Provided one’s alive, the heart will keep on beating; love knocks on the door at any moment’s notice and doesn’t ask for the age. As is the beautiful and renowned case of Allan Marks and Lillian Hartley for whom love arrived at their door during their golden years. The couple broke the Guinness World Records by getting married in an intimate ceremony at the age of 98 and 95 respectively.

Endless love knows no age and can embrace any soul at any given moment. Allowing yourself the opportunity to love during the golden years is to open your arms to life. In the “third youth” love is lived with the calmness and the tenderness of maturity; love transcends and passion is accompanied by the softness of respect and solidarity, a more gentle love emerges, more loyal, more stable.

Anyone who has lived the transcendence of love learns that there are no winners or losers as we indulge in the joy of getting old together and sharing up to the last breath of happiness.

For those who wish to enjoy a dignified and beautiful love during the golden years, only allow your love to go from ephemeral to endless and from carnal to spiritual. There is no age, fears, or prejudices that can stop a love that makes two hearts beat and one that is inviting of an eternal embrace.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

NAIL ART

In actuality, most women of all nationalities like painting their nails; a custom originating in China. In ancient times, in this country, the long thin fingers of women were considered beautiful, but not all were born with beautiful hands and that’s why some ladies decided to add decorations to their nails, so that their fingers would appear longer.

This tradition has expanded throughout the years, and; nowadays, this alternative is as original as it is extravagant. The hands are one of the most exposed parts of our body and because of it, one of the most looked at. The way in which you care for them says a lot about who you are, so your hands will be much more presentable if they’re neat, painted or decorated. This creative activity is a type of art which is also very fashionable. Currently, there are many shops that trade in the so called "nail bars"; prefabricated nail designs that recreate decorations for all occasions, from the elegant French manicure, to fruit, cartoons, flowers, Christmas, animal, Halloween, dice, desserts and any decor imaginable. They’re all fun, attractive, elegant, and even grotesque. There’s a great variety, you choose!

The beginning of this revolutionary fashion starts with artificial nails that are glued on and last a few hours or a few days at most. The packages come with their own adhesive and are sold in pharmacies and beauty supply stores.

Subsequently, false nails are made from ABS plastic, which have a texture similar to flexible acrylic and are manufactured in series. This market is mainly aimed at the working class; it does not require an expert for placement and lasts one to two days.

Gel or linen nails are made of plastic; they already have a defined size and shape, which does not always guarantee that it will adhere over an original nail. In the case of gel nails, the procedure involves applying several layers of this material and drying it with a black light, then, the nails are filed. With linen nails, several layers of cloth are applied and polished when finished.

Acrylic or porcelain nails are certainly the most recommended, as they adapt perfectly to an original nail, giving it a completely natural appearance. Its application requires the use of a mold and acrylic to give it the shape desired, and it is subsequently smoothed out. Colored acrylic nails are an excellent alternative for those who do not wish to paint their nails too often being that the color doesn’t fade away. Intense tones, neon or very bright, will mark the fashion trends for 2013 in the field of nail art, especially in the summer season.

Dare to change those sad and boring nails!!

Atrévete a cambiar esas uñas tristes y aburridas!

ARE YOU READY FOR A PET?

It is estimated in the millions the number of pets that end up in shelters up for adoption or possible termination. The primary reason for this is the plain and simple fact that people desire owning a pet without realizing the responsibilities that take precedence in making this decision.

If your child wants a pet, have you taken into consideration what this really means? Owning a pet takes on constant financing. There is food and up keep but most important are medical expenses.

An adult must be ready to handle every aspect. Done right a child can learn the meaning of responsibility while developing a loving relationship which will bring lessons and happy experiences for many years. Among those lessons at some point come the harsh lessons dealing with illness, injury health care and ultimately the animals passing. These are all parts of true life and companionship.

When your child asks for a pet, you must ask yourself whether you are ready to take on the sometimes neglected duties. Are you ready to take on giving this pet its meals, its baths, its walks and take it to the vet regularly. Like a child a pet needs attention. When attention is not given that pet will retaliate or develop behavioral problems that need to be addressed. Getting rid of or dumping a pet at a shelter should never be an option because that pet did not ask for nor deserves such a fate. If you were fed up with your child's behavior would you consider dropping them off at a shelter for possible termination?

The final result when all is done correctly is a lifetime of unconditional love and an immeasurable amount of life enhancing and altering experiences which can develop in a growing child a sense of responsibility and sharing like no other experience. For the adult the ultimate reward is the love and admiration as well as bonding with both child and pet.

Before you say yes to getting a pet you must ask yourself, “Am I ready to take this on?"

All of us have dreams and fantasies, but fear of the unknown very often holds us back. There are many people, “regular” people who courageously overcome their fears or limitations and manage to accomplish many things for which they don’t receive the recognition they deserve; these people become EXTRAordinary and inspire us to follow in their footsteps.

“My father is my great teacher. He is a man of integrity and great sense of humor; he was an athlete until 4 years ago when he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a neuromuscular degenerative disease where all body of movement is lost. This experience changed my view on life and inspires me on a daily basis to be grateful and to enjoy to the fullest all I can do.

Following his father’s disease, David Alzate, a young Colombian Systems Engineer, ventured to jump out of a plane at an altitude of 13,500ft with winds of 150 miles/hour pressing against his face; thus, overcoming his fear of freefalling. Parachuting then became his favorite sport: “The sensation is indescribable, impacting and unforgettable; feeling how the energy flows, the adrenaline, the feeling of flying in such total freedom is something every person show allow him/herself to experience.”

SUSANA FALCONI

Each brushstroke gives life to a plain white canvas, each stroke creates magic and color; silent poetry. Her realistic paintings share emotions that fly from her imagination to the depths of the beholder. Susana Falconi; art and passion made woman.

This fabulous artist was born in Quito, Ecuador, and her talent was inherited from her father, Master Wenceslao Falconi with whom she shared long journeys in his art studio as a child. Her dream was that of becoming a Walt Disney sketch artist. “At age 3, I sketched my little dog with so much detail that my father was moved at the sight of my innate talent”, shares Susana, who deviated for a while from painting to study architecture and interior design, something that allowed her to realize her true calling for the arts. It was then that she fully committed to painting and soon after held exhibits in several cities of Ecuador. In 1999, she was given the opportunity to exhibit her work internationally and did so at the New York Ecuadorian Consulate. In 2004, the world-renowned Opera Gallery hired her as an independent artist, and it was through this opportunity that her work reached, aside from Ecuador and the U.S., places like Russia, Mexico, Switzerland, Spain and Colombia.

Susana also ventured successfully in restoring great works and paintings by renowned masters like Patrick Boussignac and Fernando Botero. In 2009 she was awarded the Excellence in Preservation Award in the field of restoration and in 2011 the New York Realism Jury Choice awarded her the Gold Medal for her realistic art. In the same year, she also won first place at the Greenpoint Gallery Exhibition for one of her works; these, among many of her accolades.

Susana is very much in touch with her spiritual side, she’s coherent in her thoughts, words and actions; “when you understand that you are part of everything, your things flow wonderfully, and you feel that you vibrate at the same level as nature and the universe. I defend the animal kingdom. My latest work denounces the destruction and pollution of wildlife’s habitat as well as the abuse which many of them undergo; it is my major inspiration for being a vegan. My message invites and encourages the use of creative intelligence, which sets us apart from animals, to protect them and defend their rights.” She then cites Gandhi’s famous quote: “The greatness of a nation is judged by the way its animals are treated.”

Susana dreams of leaving her 4 children Carla, Maria José, Maria Emilia and David a legacy of love for nature, being that she is fully convinced that “love is the base for a better world.”

J BALVIN

El NEGOCIO SOCIO

The Urban Genre has overcome all kinds of expectations in the music industry, thus, opening a preferential space for itself in the musical taste of the new generation. Urban artists have created their own space, and their influence has allowed them to grow in such a way that they are recognized in prestigious international award ceremonies. It’s no secret that countries like Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico have become the cradle for the great reggaeton performers who have become known in the US. In spite of this, Colombia begins to mark a phenomenon without precedence in the influence of this rhythm; and to talk about the urban genre in this South American country is to talk about José Álvaro Osorio Balvin, the extremely famous Antioquia native, J Balvin, as he’s known in and out of his country.

In his beginnings, J Balvin had the opportunity to travel to Miami to start his career, but he decided to return to Medellin where he successfully became known throughout the country. His enthusiasm, talent and well defined attractive physique, allowed him to quickly steal the hearts and liking of his faithful followers, or fans, whom according to his own words, considers “fan-mily”, because for J Balvin the family nucleus is extremely important, so much that in his latest tattoo, he engraved the word “Family” on his chest.

When I asked him if he was inclined towards another genre, he said: “Well, inclined to the point of leaving the urban genre, no But I do want to do something diverse, aside from reggaeton I would like to do some R&B. I believe I’m very versatile in that sense, which is why I want to be characterized as an urban artist that can play in different genres. My music has followers of all ages and that’s very interesting.”

J Balvin has worked with international figures like Jowell & Randy, Héctor el Father, Zion & Lennox, Alexis & Fido, Ñejo & Dalmata, Cheka, Andy Aguilera, Chino & Nacho and Farruko, a musical work that will soon be out in the market. In spite of his young age, Balvin has many responsibilities. After pausing in our conversation, he shared: “The most drastic change in my life since I began becoming famous has been the pressure; wanting to do many things when the body doesn’t give anymore. It’s not easy to comply with so many compromises when the body is exhausted, but I think it’s something that happens to all of us. I’m a normal human being, like any other. I keep in mind that I have to strive for things and always shine in my own light.”

And shined he has! His songs depict an excellent change of ambience where we can appreciate the professionalism and diversity that this artist manages. The videos to his songs Yo Te Lo Dije and Tranquila are proof of that. “These two videos are like going from day to night, I’m an artist of the people; I give people what they want; some prefer the luxury, others the suburbs and its people, which is why the fusion was created,” says Balvin with the smile that characterizes him and makes the hearts of his fans sigh.

And to finish our talk, I asked him where his characterizing phrase El Negocio Socio (The Business Associate) was born, and after a big smile, he told me that one day he went shopping with a friend and instead of buying a CD that he was looking for, he bought 10, at which point his friend exclaimed: “Wow! You are the business.” He liked the phrase so much that he made it his and has been identifying with it ever since.

This phrase wasn’t too far off from what the artist wanted to do, as he interrupted his studies in International Business to continue with his musical career; and as he clearly says, life has shown him in many ways that his career is totally musical and being at the service of the people.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
