MARIA ELENA SALINAS

IN THE ORB OF SUCCESS
Maria Elena Salinas is a leading news anchor in Univision, in addition to being a writer, one of the most recognized Hispanic faces in journalism, as well as one of the 15 most influential people among Latinos in the United States. Passion, talent, originality, creativity, dedication, compromise, integrity, character and a lot sensibility, are only some of the values that have taken her to the top, and kept her there; a feat not accomplished by many.

With more than a 30 year trajectory and accumulated success, due to her unique style and contribution to the community, she has received dozens of awards and recognitions. The Lifetime Achievement Award, being the most recent one, which she will receive on October 1st, 2012, along with journalist Jorge Ramos, in an homage to their careers in Hispanic television in the United States. This award will be bestowed by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, in the gala of the 33rd ANNUAL NEWS & DOCUMENTARY EMMY AWARDS, held in New York City.

Maria Elena has demonstrated that we create our own destiny. As a pioneer of Hispanic television, she has been leaving an indelible mark that transcends and inspires through her contributions and commitmentto the community.Daughter to Mexican parents who migrated to the United States, Salinas is a native of Los Angeles, California; a bicultural who is very proud of her roots. This talented woman identifies with the situations encountered by Latinos in the U.S., which is the reason why she encourages her people to take an active part insociety, exerting their rights and obligations while taking part of all aspects that affect them, like politics, education, health, immigration, and employment. Committed to education, she sponsors scholarships for college students majoring in journalism through The National Association of Hispanic Journalists, which she co-founded. She is also on the board of directors of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the International Women’s Media Foundation.

This woman has received the highest award of her life, that of being mother to two beautiful children, Julia Alexandra and Gabriela. They are her priority and remain under her care after her divorce. Maria Elena is happy with the relationship she has fostered with her daughters and they share as much time as possible together. In their time together, she shares her love for them along with the values with which she grew up. Salinas is cultivating in them, love for their roots and Latin traditions.

This extraordinary woman has earned my deepest admiration; a role model as a professional, leader, mother and modern woman who has demonstrated that one can live a harmonious life, enjoying quality time in everything we do, both at work and with our loved ones as well as ourselves. Maria Elena has a very active social life, and in spite of this, she takes the time to pamper herself with her beauty routines and by contributing to her community.

Salinas leaves us with this thought: “After every difficult situation, you should see the positive in it; you’re probably freeing yourself from something not good for you.”
