COMPOSING FROM CUBA

Edesio Alejandro is a Latin gem, whom from the start has encased the movies with magic through the composition of his musical notes and his talent; abilities and virtues as a filmmaker.

Clandestinos, his first movie, opened the doors to his success, overcoming the obstacles that are present in the everyday living of Cubans in the island. This master has composed musical themes for more than 60 movies and the soundtrack to about 15 others. In spite of this, he has remained humble and kept that optimistic spark that characterizes Latinos.

This Cuban pride is finalizing his first fiction feature film; a story that can happen to anyone at different stages of life. It’s the chronicle of an artist who finds himself at the apex of success, all whilst about to lose the love of his life. With this film, Edesio wants to point out that in order to accomplish something, sometimes important things are sacrificed. It is a silent movie, supported only with music and narrates events of his personal life. His greatest challenge was having his son as an actor and to play on his deepest emotions; getting him depressed to the point of making him cry. To which he replies: “I had to touch on his most sensitive fibers. By not being an experienced actor, the sad scenes really hurt him, for which he underwent long periods of nostalgia. It was difficult but effective.”

Edesio is also finishing up the script for his next film, IRE, next to Ruben Consuegra. In this new story, love and music transport the lives of an American musician and a Cuban singer to a dimension full of drama and romance. This new project is in the pre-production stage being that Edesio and Ruben are in negotiations with the FOX network.

Without a doubt, Edesio Alejandro is an incessant worker, and during my interview with him, I could feel the great dedication and passion that he feels for music and film. I asked him what was the key to success in any career, and he bluntly answered: “To work tirelessly and risk it all.”

COMPONIENDO DESDE CUBA

Edesio Alejandro es un orgullo latino que desde sus inicios, ha envuelto de magia el cine con la composición de sus notas musicales y con su talento, habilidades y virtudes como cineasta.

Su primera película, Clandestinos, le abrió las puertas del éxito logrando la ruptura de los obstáculos que interceptan el diario vivir de los cubanos de la isla. Este maestro ha compuesto temas musicales para más de 60 películas y ha realizado la banda sonora de aproximadamente otras 15. Sin embargo, siempre ha mantenido su humildad y esa chispa de optimismo que caracteriza a los latinos.

Este orgullo Cubano se encuentra finalizando su primer largometraje de ficción; una historia que puede sucederle a cualquiera en múltiples momentos de la vida. Es la crónica de un artista que se encuentra camino a la cima del éxito, mientras está a punto de perder al amor de su vida. Con este largometraje, Edesio quiere enfatizar que para lograr algo, a veces se sacrifican cosas importantes. La película es muda, sostenida solo con música y relata hechos de su vida personal. Su mayor reto en esta producción fue tener a su hijo como actor y tocar sus sentimientos más profundos; deprimiéndolo hasta verlo llorar. A lo que él dice: "Tuve que tocar sus fibras más sensibles. Al no ser un actor con experiencia, las situaciones tristes le dolían de verdad, por lo tanto, tenía periodos largos de nostalgia. Fue difícil, pero efectivo"

Edesio también está finalizando el libreto para su próxima película IRE, junto a Rubén Consuegra. En esta nueva historia, el amor y la música transportan las vidas de un músico americano y una cantante cubana a una dimensión llena de drama y romance. Este nuevo proyecto se encuentra en la fase de pre-producción, ya que Edesio y Rubén están en negociaciones con la empresa FOX.

Sin lugar a duda, Edesio Alejandro es un trabajador sin descanso y durante mi entrevista con él, pude sentir la gran dedicación y pasión que siente por la música y el cine. Le pregunté cual era la clave para el éxito en cualquier carrera, y me contestó con una gran realidad: "Trabajar sin descanso y arriesgarlo todo"
