After a break in his ascending career, the brilliant Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes returns with a surprising twist in his musical style.

Returning to the essence of music itself, Juanes joins the distinguished Juan Luis Guerra to present a formidable work that brings a variety of musical offerings called MTV Unplugged. These two musical giants harness the energy and spirituality channeled during a sabbatical, to offer a true musical basin which includes popular songs of the Colombian singer. In the same manner, they surprise us with new songs fusing sounds of cellos, violins and trumpets; a mixture that achieves an exquisite modern musical concept that uses the acoustic guitar as base.

It was MTV who proposed Juanes to return to the vernacular music next to Juan Luis, and the offer came like a fountain of fresh water at a time when he was feeling a little saturated and tired. Working at his side and recreating the songs, refreshing the music, is the best that the musical world has given Juanes. He says it was like reconnecting with this essence. This doesn’t mean that he’s permanently changing the electric guitar for the acoustic, it’s only temporary.

The MTV Unplugged format takes him to perform in theaters all over Latin America and the United States instead of the typical stadiums he’s accustomed to filling up. His single Me enamora in acoustic version is already being played in the radio. But being on the top charts is not as important to me as people liking the music, says Juanes.

The songs chosen in this new album have beautiful energy, are enlightening, with harmonies that allow for creating different versions. “We looked for lyric themes that were different among themselves, but that at the same time were headed in the same direction,” says Juanes laughing. “At the end it was an intensity of energy with Juan Luis. For me, it was a difficult process as a composer, I wanted all the songs to be included, but Juan Luis said no, that an album with more than fourteen tracks is too complicated. It was a very positive productioN."

A positive thinking that he wants to instill in the music students. This is why in his last visit to New York, he visited the Celia Cruz School in the Bronx to talk to youngsters about what it is really like to be a musician, to encourage them to not miss classes, practice a lot whatever instrument they play and to be dedicated.

But besides playing the guitar, concerts and the studio, Juanes rides bicycle and loves to spend his free time with his family.

When I told him, the song La camisa negra says: “so poor and craving so much”. You’re not poor anymore. Are you still craving? he delineated a flirty laugh and answered “Ufff!!! Yes, you can’t imagine! I want a lot of things everyday all the TIME."

During the interview Juanes was affable and down to earth. He continues conquering his public with his positive energy, the same energy that has led him to success and demonstrates through his modesty and quality as a human being. DE VUELTA A LOS ESCENARIOS

Luego de una pausa en su ascendente carrera artística, el canta-autor Colombiano Juanes, retorna con un sorprendente giro en su estilo musical.

Volviendo a la esencia misma de la música, Juanes se une al maestro Juan Luis Guerra para presentar un formidable trabajo que trae una diversidad de propuestas musicales llamado MTV Unplugged. Estos dos gigantes de la música aprovechan la energía y la espiritualidad canalizada durante un periodo sabático, para ofrecernos una verdadera hoya musical que incluye reconocidos temas del cantante Colombiano. Así mismo, nos sorprenden con canciones inéditas, fusionando sonidos de violonchelos, violines y trompetas; mezcla que logra un exquisito concepto musical moderno que tiene la guitarra acústica como base.

Fue MTV quien le propuso a Juanes que volviera a la música vernácula junto a Juan Luis, y la oferta llegó como agua fresca ya que él estaba un poco saturado y cansado. “Haber creado y refrescado la música y componer canciones inéditas junto al maestro, es lo mejor que el mundo musical le ha dado a Juanes. Fue volverse a reconectar a su esencia”; según sus propias palabras. Esto no quiere decir que cambie definitivamente su guitarra eléctrica, por la acústica.

El formato del MTV Unplugged lo lleva a presentarse en teatros en toda Latino América y los Estados Unidos, en vez de los estadios que acostumbra llenar. Su sencillo Me Enamora en versión acústica, ya está sonando en la radio. Pero más que estar en primer lugar, lo que a Juanes le importa es que a la gente le guste.

Las canciones que se eligieron para este nuevo disco, son de energía bonita, de luz, positivas, de armonía que se presta para hacer diferentes versiones. “Buscamos que la temática de las letras fuesen diferentes entre sí, pero que al mismo tiempo apuntaran hacia la misma dirección”, dice Juanes entre risas. “Al final, fue una intensión de energía con Juan Luis.

Para mí fue un proceso difícil como compositor; quería que estuvieran todas las canciones pero Juan Luis dijo que no, que un disco con más de catorce canciones es muy complicado. Fue un trabajo muy positivo” Positivismo que él quiere infundir en los estudiantes de música. Es por eso que en su última venida a Nueva York, visitó la escuela de Celia Cruz, en el Bronx, para hablarles a los jóvenes sobre la forma cómo funciona la carrera de un músico y para incitarlos a no faltar a sus clases, a que practiquen muchísimo en el instrumento que toquen y a que tengan mucha dedicación. Pero además de la guitarra, los conciertos o el estudio, Juanes monta bicicleta y ama compartir su tiempo libre con su familia.

Cuando le dije: la camisa negra dice: “tan pobre y tan antojado”. Ya usted no es pobre, ¿Sigue siendo antojado?, me dijo esbozando una risa coquetona: “Uff f!!! Si, no te imaginas! Quiero muchas cosas todos los días y a toda hora” Durante la entrevista, Juanes se mostró simpático y asequible. Sigue conquistando a su público con su energía positiva, la misma que le permite estar en donde está y aun así, mostrar su sencillez y calidad de ser humano. Juanes presenta un trabajo exitoso impregnado de mucho amor.
