THE ROCKETTES

New York City is known to the world for the magic of its lights, for the singularity of its people and the diversity of its spectacles. Broadway shows, Madison Square Garden events, and countless theatrical venues filled with originality, emotion, and energy take over The Big Apple on a daily basis.

To shine amongst so much talent is something the Rockettes have mastered for more than 85 years of performance. Under the name of Christmas Spectacular, Radio City Music Hall showcases a musical show every year, where 36 of its 150 dancers take the stage and show off their talent. One can expect to enjoy the jazz rhythms, ballet, and modern dance, fused with the dexterity required of tap dancing, in order to synchronize movements in a play of legs, while at the same time creating an elegant and impeccable choreography enjoyed by more than 2 million people who clap during the event every Christmas season.

But behind this majestic Christmas musical, there is a meticulous routine that demands perfection. The Rockettes are a beautiful group of ladies who have to demonstrate their dancing abilities –jazz, tap and ballet- their motivation, their perseverance, their endurance and extraordinary focus. In addition, they have to meet physical requirements in order to be part of this select group in which thousands of prospects from all over the world audition for a spot. Their measurements, 5‘6” and 5’10 ½”, are strictly taken by its organizers; they have to have long legs, be dancers, be able to work legally in the US, and they need be over 18 years old. Becoming a Rockette is the golden dream of many dancers. And for young girls who from the age of 10 years old show promise in ballet and tap, The Rockette Experience allows them to fulfill, for a day, that dream. In this extraordinary program, the girls are trained by real Rockettes who help them master the choreographies and the famous “line kick”, which in perfect synchrony raises each of their legs to the height of their heads.

Even though these glamorous girls and their refined choreographies become the center of attention on stage, the whole show is made up of a great number of talented professionals; choreographers, designers, producers and actors. The girls also recreate, in a wonderful choreography, the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers. The show fills us with the Christmas spirit that includes the all around popular “Santa” flying over the audience. Its music, played by a live orchestra, elevates us to a multifaceted dance, representing the true nativity.

The Christmas Spectacular has converted its Rockettes into the icon of Christmas made glamour. And Christmas, in the City of Skyscrapers, would not be the same without this tradition.

Ser Rocckette, es el sueño dorado de muchas bailarinas. Un sueño que The Rockettes Experiencie les permite cumplir por “un día” a las jóvenes que desde los 10 años de edad, desarrollan destrezas para el ballet y el tap. En este extraordinario programa, las chicas son entrenadas por las verdaderas rockettes, para realizar las coreografías y la famosísima “patada de línea”, que en perfecta sincronía, eleva la pierna de cada una de ellas, a la altura de sus cabezas.

Aunque estas glamorosas chicas y sus afinadas coreografías se convierten en el centro de atención frente al escenario, todo el show cuenta con un numeroso grupo de talentosos profesionales; coreógrafos, diseñadores, productores y actores. Las chicas también recrean el “Festival de los soldados de madera” en una coreografía. El show nos adentra en un espíritu navideño, que incluye al popular “Santa” volando por encima del público.
